Tyron Smith is a Challenger

by Bryan Dolgin

Tyron Smith is great teammate.  In this particular circumstance, I am not referring to how he is when he is around his Dallas Cowboys teammates.  I’m referring to him being on the Meador Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram team.

The Cowboys offensive lineman drives a Meador vehicle and helps promote the Meador Auto Group.  He is a big fan of the Dodge Challenger.  He loves the speed and power that he gets in the Challenger.  Not only does the 2011 first round pick drive one, but Tyron informed me that a bunch of his teammates also drive a Challenger.

Tyron being a fan of the Challenger played a role in the themes we wanted to get across in these new spots for Meador that will air on The Fan, 105.3 FM in DFW.  The 30-second spot focused on how one’s vehicle can possess the personality and work ethic of its driver.

The 15-second spot created a correlation between Tyron being a top draft pick and Meador having a top pick for the customer: The new 2013 Ram 1500 – Motor Trend Truck of the Year.   Be sure to read the rest of this blog post, but learn about an exclusive offer at meadorauto.com.

On a mid-January day, Tyron and I met at a recording studio on the 5th floor inside the CBS Radio building in Dallas to record these radio spots.  This was the first time I met Tyron.  He’s an imposing character standing 6’5” and weighing more than 300 pounds, a chiseled look.   He lives in the Metroplex year-round and is relaxing these days before workouts ramp up in February.

We probably spent 15 minutes in the studio.  In the middle of the session, he admitted to sweating it out.  He and I joked about how I would feel if I was in his shoes on the football field.  If I were on the gridiron, sweating probably wouldn’t be my only problem.  We laughed, and he continued reading his lines.

Bob Hathaway (left), who handles production at CBS Radio, is fantastic when it comes to coaching people through reading scripts.  Bob would tell Tyron exactly how to emphasize certain words or phrases.  He records, edits and adds the sound effects for the spots.  Tyron recorded several sentences, and I had my voice recorded for the other parts.  Tyron turned in an All-Pro effort in the studio.

By the way, Tyron correctly predicted a Harbaugh brothers match-up, San Francisco vs. Baltimore, in the Super Bowl.  Not only was he spot on with his prediction, but he also made the right choice driving a Dodge Challenger from Meador Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (off I-20 and Campus Drive in south Fort Worth and at meadorauto.com).
